I purchased a baked enamel/ tin sign and knew it had a wax type paper surrounding it. which i was told is the original wrappings. Well the sign sign is near mint condition and you can see through the wrappings. want i want to know if i remove the wrappings will is decrease the value of the sign. I truly dont like how it looks on the sign.

If it looks anything like the red Firestone sign on here the other day, still had original brown tissue paper wrapping on it, I hear removing the paper is easier said than done. Ed.

He said it was porcelain so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have never seen a porcelain sign wrapped in paper. In my opinion more then likely it is not a porcelain sign. Oiled paper was used on enamel/tin signs. If left in place for extended periods of time the oil embedded the paper into the paint. I have found once the paper is removed a lot of times the oil in the paper has discolored and dulled the paint. Not an easy task to remove the paper. Tedious and time consuming.

I used Adhesive remover to get the wax paper off of this Firestone sign , here is the before and after results it worked on this one. Every sign is different , I would try just a little spot at a time . day one gloss on this one , bad lighting in this picture

I Agree with Hi-OCTANE. Adhesive remover, Goo Gone should work. Try a test area.
