Lots of full restaurants and pubs there on a Saturday night. One of the prettiest towns in Maryland. Can you imagine the power of this flood? One dead, but I would not be surprised if there are more--their were videos on the internet of people holding onto cars as they were being swept away. The river is below the town, so the flash flood was from one of the feeder creeks.

This is the scariest video of all! It shows it from the start to the worst:

It's shocking how quickly that street water went from annoying (to say the least) to deadly.

cak - it must have been horrible. Were you able to rebuild? Is the town on stilts now?

The historic part of Ellicott city, main street, if I am remembering correctly is in a valley of sorts, which the water funneled into. I ask about stilts because I am wondering what Ellicott City will do...

8 inches of rain fell in an hour. One more fatality-hundreds of rescues during and right after.

Some more incredible video

We rebuilt you would never know our town was in a flood We put in 3 miles of dykes around the town to protect it People's houses in the flood plain were bought out and there is no more houses there I was lucky my insurance covered everything Red Cross was a huge help
