Just got a 117 are there any particular areas that give particular problems I need to be on the look out for?

Just take a lot of pictures. If you don't know I am the author of the Gas Pump Identification books. Presently I am in the process of getting the book to a printer.

I announced that my next project will be the Guarantee (Fry Mae West pumps). I am gathering pictures and any little bit of info I can. Again, I ask you to take pictures and I hope there is a ID tag, I would like a picture of it.

Thanks in advance,

Jack Sim

Morning Jack, I believe I saw your book earlier this morning looking online. I always take a lot of pictures so I'm good there. I just wanted to make sure there weren't any quirks I really need to be watching out for.

If you are going to dismantle the pump to restore it, don't try to remove any nuts/bolts without heating them up red hot with a torch and then quenching with cold water. The nuts will come free almost 100% of the time. I can never remove the graphite-laced packing rope behind the 3 packing nuts without drilling it out. Maybe there is a way to removed it intact.

Thanks Joe now I have a use for this torch. Not sure how far I'll restore this one since it might just become one for my personal display.

I have done 6 to 8 and some 17s also , he is correct about the heat . save all original bolts , they are important in restoration , to get the gallon selector rod free , you will also need to remove the packing nuts , they do not take heat and will melt or distort .be careful not to damage the nuts ,I think they are cast aluminum , I used( freeze spray in a can ),the packing is a rope material , hard to save . I just pull it out , be careful on re assembly , easy to scratch base putting skins on , I can give you some tips just call Jay 303-697-0393

I'll be in touch jay. I like to take restorations as far as I can and this will be a new one on me. I mainly deal with cars.
