I need to ship a vehicle from California to Illinois, and it needs to be shipped enclosed.
Anyone have any references for decently priced automobile shippers?

I used reliable twice, once from las vegas to canton Michigan and once from La Habra California to Canton Michigan, last time was aprox 3 years ago. I believe it was 1100 or 1200 . but they were non running cars. if they run, it is cheaper. they gave great service both times. I had them shipped to their depot and the drivers even helped me push them on the car trailer. I had some quotes for a little cheaper, but felt more comfortable with reliable. plus they are well insured.

My buddy had his 69 Shelby shipped from Connecticut to Kansas by Fedex. He said they did that one for $1500 and did a good job. That's been probably four or five years ago but freight is actually cheaper in most cases now because of fuel prices. Might check with them......GB

Often car carriers are very present at the vintage car auctions, like Russo and Steele, Barrett Jackson, Mecum. Might be able to search for ads at their websites. I'd be tempted to call Mecum as they have auctions all over and should now which carriers are good and reasonable.

thanks for all the advice guys.
for anyone to use as future reference... I ended up using a shipper out of Chicago called 'Nexus Auto Transport'. Total door-to-door cost was $1350 for a light truck from CA to IL via enclosed car-hauler.

Looks like a pretty straight old truck. You'll find the time to do it somehow....

i have noticed, that regardless the shipping company, they are quick to raise rates when fuel prices spike, but do not lower them when fuel prices go down.
UPS, FedEx, & Freight companies are still charging what they did when fuel was $4/gallon. Its frustrating.
I have the same complaint for Beltmann Group. Shipping a pump is more expensive today than it was 2 years ago, and fuel is nearly half the price it was 2 years ago. i dont get it.

Nice truck Bryce. Doesn't look like much of a project. When you ship from an auction like BJs they have by the canines, as you have to use their guys. I shipped one state over and it was 1K whether it was the eastern border, where i was, or the far western border some 400 miles away. So add that to your shipping "inconsistencies"
