A friend of mine wants me to restore a national A 62 pump. It is missing the doors. We measured from the lower lip of the top of the pump to the base. Measures approx. 55 inches. Gas Pump heaven sells Tokhiem 39 doors that are supposed to fit but they are only 52.5 inches. Any ideas? thanks

This isn't much help, but you are correct, short 39 doors came in two different heights with different style closing mechanisms and window styles. I don't have any left to compare the two. Bray

I measured an all original A62 door at 52" +or- the fraction. Keep in mind that the door when closed does not set on the base, there is a little gap. I have seen many different heights in the same model of pumps, don't really know why. At least you could buy the doors and shorten the frame to match.

There is a lift off door and a hinged door. I have owned both but never measured the doors. This may be the difference.

there is a bracket at the bottom to hold the door so I am assuming a lift off door

I may be wrong but I think all A62 pumps used hinged doors with cam-locks? I have had several through here and all were like the above. My bad, I just realized that I was thinking about the 360? Old age will screw with what little mind you have, LOL! Paul www.severngaspumps.com

My last A62 had the lift off doors with the lower louvers and keyed at the bottom. There was no "lift" mechanism like many short 39's. The faces had the recessed style site glass hole with the "stubby" site glass. Brady

Here is an explanation of all the Model 39s: http://petrolianacollectibles.com/tokheim%2039a.htm

The National 62 is a version of the Tokheim 39A & 39B. These are the ones where the doors lifted off.

Well the owner of the pump called gas pump heaven and yes apparently there are a few odd versions of this pump that take a longer door so I think he plans on shortening the pump to match the doors

I don't agree there being a "few odd versions, etc." A big corporation that Tokheim was at that time, they didn't make a "few" of anything.
It is unfortunate that not many of you subscribe to the "CTO" club and magazines. This is where myself and others describe/explain things in dept, usually with accompaning pictures. I once wrote an extensive article on the Tokheim 39, and the one thing I remember is that I determined that Tokheim made over 125,000 of them.
The pump we are discussing was not a National pump, it was a Tokheim pump with a different top, it was only branded National because there was still a following for National pumps. I have a "Repair Parts Manual" that covers the following pumps: Tokheim 39A, 39B, National 62-A & 64B.
According to the manual the doors are identical for all four pumps.
