I fairly new to the gas end of things, but have been dealing in other things for years, and just like Jack, if disclose everything to one time sellers, I NEVER end up with the item. For me, I give people a "marketable cash value" appraisal, which is the most money they could expect to sell it at if they needed to sell it today to a variety of buyers......not what one may have gone for at a high-end auction 3 years ago. That way, I give them an honest sale price, and I have room to make my 1.3-3% profit. As a hobby, if I can make $50 per item, that's pretty good I would say.
And of course, like all the others mentioned, you need to put a lot of elbow grease into this if you want to keep your head above water and don't want anyone coming back with complaints.
Happy selling smile

Gary. Is this not your website where you are reselling the reproduction Buffalo flange signs, the reproduction Red Indian signs, and the reproduction Husky flange signs. You claim in one of your posts that you're looking to learn about real signs, yet you deal in overseas fantasy junk? You also say you hope to make a mere $50 on something, yet you market that Buffalo flange at a whopping $4750 to unsuspecting buyers when that junk came from India at about $600 a sign into Saskatoon.

Please explain as I'd sure like to hear the answer of this from one of the guys who's pushing repopped signs?

From the Vintagegold website:
"BUFFALO MOTOR OIL double sided flanged porcelain sign. Not a reproduction, but not one that was ever produced by Prairie City. Made in 2013 $4750"

Wow,that's a creative way to say it's a fantasy piece. It's certainly not priced as such.

Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros.

Not that anybody would ever pay $4750 for a fantasy piece but so much for an "honest sale price"
