Chevron Refinery in Richmond, Ca. waited for a part to fail & resulted in a large fire that shut down the refinery 1st week of Aug. Then a refinery in Torrance blew a circuit & was down for a week. Our gasoline Jumped from $4.13 a week ago Sunday to $4.86 to this Past Sun.
To PROTECT all states Air Quality to the East of Cal. we have to use a Special Summer gasoline. Gov. is moving up the date to release Winter Gasoline & w/ that news our gasoline dropped $0.05! WHOOPIE
The rest of the country should have to pay [w/ Gasoline/Diesel] Cal. for the Cleaner air we send their way!

Although CA's gas is supposed to be cleaner, you get fewer mpg, so it's probably a wash.
I guess we're the lowest so far at $3.37 in Texas.

Diesel cheaper than gas thats a first in a long time. In 1999 I bought first diesel ,it was 1.35 here. Gas was 2.55.I have a tank in bed of truck I can put over a 100 gallon in. It isn't much good anymore because you would have to float a loan to fill it up.
Gas was 3.95 today without corn.

The problem with cleaner air is the E.P.A. does not make all things equal so you wind up with refineries all over the country having to meet "special" requirements of different types and that Formula can't go to other areas. This is a map showing all the different Reed Vapor Pressure requirements across the country. Refineries only make one type, refined to the specifications for its distribution area, so if it goes down, it creates a huge supply issue.
Dick is right. The government wants to extend the time lower RVP gasoline is mandated. Now it stands as June 1st thru Sept. 15th.
Refineries can't just switch over to the lower formula for the summer months. They have to completely shutdown to make those changes. Then shutdown again to change back. This called a "Turn A Round". It can take anywhere from 15 - 30 days to make this change over. Lower RVP gasoline is also more costly to make.

Dial Up users - this is a 2.73 mb PDF file. May take a while to download.
