My dad restored this car about 10 years ago. Last weekend he gave it to me. I was in no hurry to get it, but he has cancer and his health is rapidly declining. I think he wanted me to get it now so that he could see how much I enjoyed it. That's my dad in front of the car.
I traveled to Illinois last weekend to trailer the car back to Michigan. My home town is on Route 66 (Pontiac, Illinois) so I thought it would be good to cruise old 66 with dad and take some photos in front of this old restored Standard Oil station about 10 miles down old 66 from Pontiac. It was great to cruise down the old highway with my dad listening to the pipes talkin in the back. When we got to the gas station, a bunch of guys on Harleys either stopped and admired the car or gave us the thumb's up going past. I was glad to see that dad saw that his work restoring the car was appreciated. I'll continue to care for the car and improve a few things along the way. Anyway, enjoy the pics. The new ride sure looks good in the pole barn with some signs and globes as a backdrop.

Brian...I got a "little teary" reading your story. And what a great story it is. I lost my dad 17 years ago and I still think of him almost everyday. One day he and mom were down visiting us and dad and I went for a ride. His health was declining and we knew time was limited. He never quite understood my passion for collecting Texaco stuff. We stopped at a little antique store to stretch our legs and went in. I walked right past a Texaco pump plate sign. He saw it and said, "What about this?"...Even though I had a few it was in nice condition and bought it. We got home and hung "his sign" in the garage. Whenever we chatted he often asked about "his sign." I wouldn't sell that sign for love nor money.

Thanks fellas for all the compliments on the car. I'll pass them along to dad. I'll never forget that ride on Old 66 last weekend with my dad.

Alex, dad also gifted me two crown globes - a perfect white with copper base and a red with a 3-inch hole in it. Since they came from him, they are NFS...ever.

Brian, that trip down 66 was a great thing to do. I'm sure your dad appreciates it even more than you know. What a great relationship.
