I just recieved a message from someone who says that I won an Item that He was selling on Ebay and he wants me to Pay for it or he's going to report me to EBay ,He claims to have sent me several e-mails and I have failed to respond to them , so I checked my Ebay account just to see if there was anything that maybe I over looked, I have several things that I'm watching but in the past 60 days it says that I've not won a thing , so am I to assume that this is some kind of a scam , It looks real legit, I think I should notify Ebay , but who do I contact, any suggestions

Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com They will tell you if it's real or not.

Did it have an item number?

I get emails asking me how much is shipping to ... on item #------- I check the item which I know is not mine and it's something that ended weeks ago.

Lots of scams going on.

Hey Chris, got the same email today and forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com.
Seems like more and more coming all the time.

Not sure if you read about the enhancement to ebay's "My Messages" for detecting spoof emails.

You can get to this from "My Ebay" and then under General Ebay Announcements.

Here's a piece of the message.

***Updated: Expansion of My Messages Now Complete***

June 22, 2005 | 11:15AM PST/PT

We are pleased to announce that the expansion of My Messages is now complete. Now you’ll be able to confirm whether an email that appears to be from eBay is legitimate, because all account-related messages from eBay will be in your My Messages Inbox. From a safety perspective, the bottom line is this – If the email affects your eBay account, it's in My Messages. (Please see Rob Chesnut’s Announcement from June 1, 2005 and Wendy Jones' from June 16, 2005 directly below for more details.)

Got one too, or something that looks like what's being discussed here. I think mine was generated from the "me" icon that I have through my user ID. The message came through that website that my photos are hosted thru.... I also checked their ID. Not listed according to eBay's records.

Just recently I received 3 different 2nd chance offers from 3 different email addresses for a vintage Judson Supercharger I was bidding on a month ago. Also several You need to update your account info ones. It seems to be getting worse all the time.

Chris, I got one yesterday that accused me of winning the bid on an "item" (not specified)and not paying for it too. I forwarded it to www.spoof@ebay.com but haven't heard anything back from them. The email looked officially from ebay but seller was not registerd and NO ITEM number which was a dead give away along with "foreign" English. In "My Ebay" it will show you items that you haven't paid for. whoever got both of my email addresses even though I never use the one on Ebay, another red flag went up.
Be carefull! Lots of nasties out there.
I can't think of one thing man has invented that someone didn't use it to commit a crime.

I received a similar message from someone stating that they had tried to contact me regarding an auction.

The email has a message that the seller has tried to contact you for non-payment and will report to eBay. It looks very much like the emails that you would receive from eBay. It has a button link for you to reply to.

Forward the entire email to spoof@ebay.com.

* The "username" that sent the email is fraudlent. ** The message has a bad link. (It goes to a site that is NOT eBay. You can check it on some browsers by rolling the cursor over the link.) *** Also...if it is from a registered eBay user...and the message is through eBay....you will receive the same message in your mailbox on eBay.

Keep your heads up!!

Kmann,

Spam experts say it's better to just delete the email and not reply. Your reply indicates that your email address is valid and invites more of the same.

A word to the wise....
