I Have listed this on ebay.

Item #142538330556

Early Havoline Dark Gear Compound. Indian Refining Company. New York City. Possibly Unopened. I cant tell for sure

Here is a rare one for your collection. I have searched and searched and can not find another photo of this can or any history of one being sold or for sale. I did find a 1919 newspaper clip (pictured) that mentions it as being used for transmission oil.

HAVOLINE GREASES
HAVOLINE DARK GEAR COMPOUND—
Is a semi-fluid lubricant or "dope" especially
prepared for use in transmission cases, ft
combines the advantages of oil and grease
without the disadvantages of either, and is preferable
in gear cases and rear axle housings
where leakage would occur with a fluid oil. It
is adhesive to the highest degree and is especially
recommended for the lubrication of worm
gears.
