Don't get excited yet but I thought I would share what Iowa gas looks like before the vendors and buyers show up.
Some of the vendors are rolling in, check out this pump!
Nobody really sets up on tuesday, but they do bring in their items for the room to room stuff
To me this is the best spot in iowa, Hemibird, texaspelican and I set up under these trees. Stop by if you can.
This is where most the vendors show up. It looks huge when its empty.
Till tomorrow...
I'm bummed I can't go.
While sitting here at work,I really appreciate you posting these pics and daily too if possible.
THANK YOU!

Scott,
Thanks so much for posting pictures. I know from having done it that it takes a lot of time to post. Everyone that can't be there really appreciates it. I was planning on coming this year but I landed some big accounts and have to take care of business first! Pat.
P.S., got your email, guess I'll have to hang onto the Vickers 1/2 gallon can till next year, huh? LOL!

Yeah, thank you so much for posting the pictures. We would love to be there! Actually seriously considered hauling a$$ after our closing today and driving there. Then decided with buying a house and a car that going to IG would probably not be the smartest thing we ever did! Haha. Anyway, have a great time! :-)
Tara
How much was on the red hat sign?
And the picture below it with the Wagoner refining sign?
[This message has been edited by Kosmo (edited 08-01-2008).]
How much was the Speedway sign? Contact?
By the way, does anyone know when IG is next year? We want to be able to make plans to be there. Thanks!
Tara
The dates for Iowa Gas 2009 are: August 6,7,& 8.
Uh oh. Wes is not gonna be happy! That's the same weekend as our Hurst/Olds Club of America National Meet. The same thing happened last year! Well...I definitely will not be at IG. We might be going separate ways that weekend! Haha! Thanks for the dates!

1:45 west coast time, Friday. Just got home from Iowa and had a WONDERFUL time. Many more vedors then Columbus. Most sellers told me they were haveing good, not great, sales and were happy. Lot's of signs, not anything super rare, MANY globes and MANY pumps. If you are a globe or pump collector this is the place. Weather was HOTTTTTT and very humid. When the cloud cover goes away it's nasty. I love this show and will be making reservations for next year as soon as they come out the first of the year. Wonderful place to meet so many great people. We all seem to know each other by our Old Gas or ebay names.
Anyway thanks to the promoters, GREAT show

Scott
"I know this pick is not gas and oil but have you ever seen a bathroom with 4 tp rolls?"
That would have to be Motormanoil's room ! LOL
Thanks forthe pics....
Was that Texaco Neon real or a fantasy piece? Thanks.
Alex
To end let me give you one last pic and a few tips if you plan on attending iowa gas:
Tips for Iowa Gas:
Bring plent of $$ there is lots to buy
Drink a TON of water I swear it was 100% humidity
Thursday is THE day for attending the show
Friday is bargain basement day, on the way out one of the vendors offered pumps at 50% or more off what he was selling them for the day before.
Hope to see you all next year.
Any info on who had the Marathon sign??
Eric and Dave Steinberg had that Marathon sign.Sorry, I don't have their contact info handy.
Powerlube, you forgot to mention it was 102 degrees Thursday afternoon. It was HOT!
who had the sheild globes ?
Special thanks to the promotors and everyone who helped put on the Iowa Gas Show. Powerlube...you did a great job on posting pictures and keeping us informed on a daily basis. I plan on attending next years show for the first time. I am looking forward to meeting all of the Oldgas members that I haven't met before. Thanks for the tips of the show. I'll try to remember that next year ($$$) Let's see how many first timers we get for next years show. Iowa Gas is definately the premier gas and oil show in the country. Special thanks again. Larry
I'm not a globe collector, but, I sure would like to have one of those Phillips 66 shield globes...What kind of $$$$ are those bringing in todays market?
Kurt
I believe the 66 shields were $1100
Thanks guys for posting all the photos.
Does anyone know the asking prices on the Richfield Just Ahead, Richfield Ethyl, Beacon Penn, and Pierce charge card signs?
Does anyone remember what the price of the Texaco Marine rack sign was ? Did it sell ?
Thanks Doug
If anyone has contact info for Eric/Dave Steiberg please fire me an email. Thanks.
Dave Steinberg & Eric Yeley are two local guys who've been into signs for more then half there lives.I see them both at local swapmeets throughout the year.

I have always said....if you make only one show a year, this is the one to make. 960 miles one way for me that I dread, but it is all worth while when I get there.....see ya next year in da shade.

WTB Billups, Ride with Rose, Spar, Canal, Gulf Coast, and Galtex gas and Oil related items.
cpizza: thanks for the info.
Tom
Sorry to hear about your loss.
It looks and sounds like it was a good show, thanks for the pictures. I couldn't make it this year but I did get to drool on the porcelain my brother picked up.
Paddy,
2200 miles going for me & 1700 miles for the return trip with all the goodies.
Only 750 miles each way for me but it felt like 2500 with two sick babies and no sleep for three days. Still wouldn't trade having my family along for anything.

Signs Wanted: Sunset, Clipper, Habor, Indian, Powerlube, Beacon, Sinclar Aircraft
My first time to IG but it won't be my last. Brought a couple of buddies with me and we all had a great time, 10 hours and 600 miles each way. Met quite a few oldgasers but not all, we'll get them next year.
Mick
The Texaco Marine oil rack sign sold for the $1200 asking price. Check out the bay item that's on right now. A Texaco Marine sign, btter then the one at Iowa AND the rack AND the cans

Regarding the Shell Aviation sign on page 2 of this post.Curious as to who had it and if it sold.Price? Thanks,Frank
I am pretty sure it sold to a collection in the PNW. Not sure the price.
It sold, not real sure, but, i think there were 2 of them. large one 10 or 12k, small one 24k
but, please don't hold me to these. i seen the one pictured, but not the other one.
Thanks for both replys-the reason i ask,at least 25 years ago i bought an aviation sign like the one pictured. The three piece sign was mounted on a piece of redwood and was in a Shell station in N.Ca.I paid $50.00 for it,A well known collector from the Chicago area that i been dealing with wanted to see a photo of it.I sent the photo and told him it was not for sale.A short time later a check arrived from him for $1000.00.It became for sale at that moment!I have often wondered what became of it.Could this be the same one? i have never seen another.

Thought I would bring this back to the top, if you are on the fence to attend...do it!
