Unsure what the 1936 denotes in your title. This is a 1980-90's fiberglass faced sign.
I know it looked to modern but the tag clearly or not so clearly shows a 12/36 mfg date. I am trying to research date codes to help clear this up.
Dave is right, 1980's/90's sign. I sold one in similar condition earlier this year for $120.
maybe it reads 12/86? Definitely late model, not 30's.
Under a magnifying glass it does say 12 / 36. Yes is could be a an 8 that was not struck square.
www.texacocollector.comGives you theTexaco logo history and dates.
The plastic Texaco round light started in the 70's and have gone through various changes from your embossed star to a convex smooth star to the current flat star. These are canopy and wall signs. Typical price for working units is $250-300. I love the guys who sell them cheap, makes it easy for me to double my money like we use to do on all the signs out there.
There are some on ebay as well to compare what sold prices have been. Look at the completed auctions and not just the asking price. Have seen them sell from $150 to asking $300...and more....
It looks like I found the right place. I want to thank everyone for sharing their experience.
If a moderator wants to change the topic title to 1986 that would be fine with me.
Some of those ebay auctions are for just the face and not a complete sign. So a working sign should bring $200 and up.
I no longer have my big garage and keeping this one might be out of the question.
