Hi, anyone have any experience with the fiberglass script tops that GPH is selling? I was curious about how good it fits/looks. Since it’s fiberglass, is there any difference in paint applications? Just tossing the idea of converting my M&S 80 around. Thanks, Rick

Hey Rick…years ago I restored a MS80. It had a fiberglass top. I had to remove the old paint but repainted just like metal. Turned out well.

I have used them in the past and have had no problems. Just remember that the air vents are solid and don't have the slots going inside. Also, the fiberglass and original name inserts may have to be cut so they fit right. Richard

Ok, so sounds like paint isn't much concern. Since the pump will be indoors or in garage would the lack of vents be much issue other than looking original? (assuming led lights would be used)
Hoping that the trimming for fit doesn't require an artist. Rick

Vents are just for looks. Quick way to check to see if it is original or repop. Paint was no problem; I use a good quality automotive paint. I just use a fine-tooth jig saw blade to cut the insert when I have to. Richard

If you do try one, you should document the experience. It'd be good to know your experience with the fit/finish and the quality of the product.

I think there is two different discussions going on here, the original fiberglass tops and the reproduction fiberglass tops. I have restored at least one MS80 with the reproduction fiberglass. Cant remember if it was Pergyl or GPH that sold them.

Basically, you need to have some bodywork skills to use them. I did a little trimming and had to fill the parting line (down the middle) with body filler. I vaguely remember there being some issues with the radius of the corners and how they met with the metal side panels. It all worked out, just took some massaging before jumping into prepping for paint. My advice would be to test fit it on the pump and fix and issues before proceeding further into the normal painting steps.

All in all, I was happy with the results.

Alternatively, you can get a tall metal blank top and do like I did recently on this pump. I'm still considering making a kit for it. Scroll down to April 24th posting. https://www.facebook.com/roadrash

(Oops, ignore my comments on working with the reproduction tops. GPH seems to be selling something new, I think my repros came from Pergyl, although I think the advice in using would be similiar).
