Sometime ago, when scrap was high, I helped a close friend clean up a dump on his family farm. Some real cool stuff was found. This pump was there and I was given this by my friend, what is left, I took careful measurements (see attached). I have about 8 inches the full length of both skins. I will attempt to put more pictures of the actual pieces as time allows. The skins were tapered and cylindrical and had beading. I have not found any evidence of a manufacturer. I have very limited experience with pumps. I guessed it to be a G&B. From what I have read, G&Bs have a 12 inch glass cylinder? This pump measures to be a 10 inch ID. I would like to get it to a point that I can display it. So I’ll have a a couple of want ads when I learn more. I would also welcome an opinion if this is a 5 gallon or tall 10? So I am asking for any help to determine what I have? Thank you in advance.

If the outside of the glass was /is 10 1/2 "in diameter and about 20" or so high, its a five gallon cylinder,-If its about 36"+ its a 10 gallon "Tall" pump. That might help you ID it. Can you post a picture of what you have. Theres a good chance some member here will be able to tell you what you have without the complete pump.

There was no glass. So that is why I ask if the make is determined, then someone may be able to definitively tell me that it has to be a certain gallon based on pictures.

That is a g&b 176.

That did not take long. My own detective work had it as a G&B, as said earlier. But what about the 10 inch cylinder? I thought the G&B had a 12 1/2 inch?

Further, did a G&B make 5 gallon & tall 10?
Does the 176 mean it was a 5 gallon? Or, are all 176 the same size? I must apologize, I am in love with this stuff (petroliana), but I have no books on pumps. Just what I have learned off the net.

I took some more measurements and pictures. I am thinking that the cylinder goes inside the raised ring (lip) where that dark band goes around the inside of that lip is where the gasket went ? Confirmation please.

Also, if you go the "Showcase and Stories" forum and click on Page 6, the G&B T-176 pumps were featured in the May 2017 "Pump of the Month" posting. There are several photos of T-176s (including mine in American Gas colors) that you can look at.

I am sorry, but for a reason I am not sure how to correct, this site won’t allow me to search the archives past June 2017?

There is a button when doing your search that you can select to change the date.

You mentioned above a picture of the hat. Gas pumps are gender related and are females, that top was referred to as a bonnet by many companies.

In the words of the late Johnny Carson "I did not know that."
