Hello gentlemen! Im thinking of buying some oil bottles for my collection. Im not thinking brand specific but generic. Ive gone back and looked at some posts on identifying fakes but would like to get some input as to what red flags you look for when buying, especially online. Thank you for your time.

Waterslide decals made today can be applied to an old generic oil bottle. Artificially aged paper labels can be applied to old product jars to make them appear to be WWII era oil jars. Unless you are very experienced, I'd recommend staying away from either of these since dishonest sellers add these decals and labels to trick people into paying too much. There are a few real fired-on color logo oil bottles and real paper labeled jars, but it takes some knowledge to avoid getting taken.
