Need some help on a sign again. Ebay 201348298656 Looks a little thin to me but not sure as I have only seen one other. Thanks, Tim
There was some controversy over the Shell Kerosene signs, about 6 or 8 years back. I remember a friend getting a few that he thought were NOS, and later discovering that they were repops. I don't remember the whole story on them but for me, the repoppers have ruined that sign and I would never buy one. Too many unknowns.
mine show american artworks at bottom of inside flange ...
It's a repop by what I see. Bryce Gillespie (BryceG) sold one recently and here was his thread.

the dead giveaway in the repops vs the originals, is the boldness & overall detail of the lines of the clamshell.
they did make originals both marked (like Randy's) and unmarked
oh yeah, and what Mike said, the one in question is a repro
Whew! Thanks everyone. Could have bought one a few years back but now I am not sure if it was real or not. I think I will take Kevins advise and stay away unless it is through oldgas. Thanks again, Tim
Also made in PORCELAIN--one i had many years ago.
2500 reasons to sell it!
Randy would say "THE REAL McCOY"
if the one above is real and is porcelain, then it looks like the mfg of the fake tin ones used it as the template for a copy.
Thanks Randy,it came from a Shell Oil bulk plant in San Andreas Ca. in the early 70's.
those are really neat... and also shows us what the fakers used as reference for the repro. all good info. thanks for sharing Frank & Randy
WOW nice signs guys! The one really shows the depth of the letters in the porcelain.
