Hey Guys! I picked up these two pumps last week and I had some questions about the decals on them. I know a little bit about Rainbow but the Gardner 70 is a new one to me. I searched the forum and didn't find out much about it other than some globes with the logo were reproduced. I'm wondering if maybe it was a local company. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Company was out Yakima, WA. Richard

Cool logo!... 48" Porcelain would be killer…..

Thanks Richard! That would make sense. I found the pumps in the lower Yakima valley on a farm a mile from where I grew up. I drove by those pumps every day for 30 years and never noticed them until about 6 months ago!

I sent an Email to the Yakima Historical Society asking if they have any information on the Company? If I "hear" anything, I will post it here...

Yeah I'm not sure how I missed that! Thanks....

Thanks for looking into it Bob. Hopefully they know something about the company. It's such a neat logo. I'd love to learn more about it.

Nice pumps. Did you happen to pick them up in Wapato?
Posted By: Drag7600 Re: Gardner 70 - Wed May 27 2015 02:46 AM
Yes they were a few miles outside of town. I figured I couldn't have been the only one who noticed them.

Saw them many years ago, but seller didn't want to sell at the time. Glad you were able to pick them up. Two nice survivors

grin Cool to see another pump with this decal, I found my Tok 39 several years ago in Toppenish with that decal buried under about 12 Shell decals, could be the brother to yours ! Not much out there on Gardner, I've looked for years.....curious to see what the historical society comes up with ! I've found a couple grease cans and the picture was provided by Huskybob (see link) Globes were popped by both T-way & Slama/Buck......very cool find ! Steve Z

Very nice survivors. I would leave the paint as is. Aside from ad glass, I'd procure a proper nozzle and hoses and be done. Without disclosing prices, since they could not be bought prior did you go up and make an offer or did you ask if they were for sale and ask how much? You must have very good negotiating skills to buy what was not obtainable earlier. Nice logos.

Thanks Steve Z! Now I just need to find someone willing to part with one of the repop globes for it!

Jim I'm not sure why he decided to sell them to me! When I stopped in to talk to his son about doing some fabrication work, I noticed the gas pumps and asked him about them. He told me they needed to sell them or move them because they were tired of people asking about it. I guess I just caught him on a good day!

Here are a couple more pics of the wayne rainbow that I bought with it. It looks like the decals should clean up nicely on it. Could anyone lend any advice for cleaning up the Gardner logo? I've used paint stripper before but I'm wondering if anyone has used anything a little less abrasive. I sure don't want to mess this one up.

I assume the decal is plastic.
A lot of people here have had luck removing paint from plastic with brake fluid.
It might attack the glue though...not sure
good luck !

I have one for sale. I sent you a PM.

When Z first found the image Slama and T-way did some globe lenses and Buck did some signs using decals on powder coated metal.
I got a couple of 12" ones and a 24" and am very happy with them as I think it is one of the coolest images out there.

Here's a link to Buck's site:
