stupid stuff for sale over and over?
I have made some GREAT buys in the past but now it seems the items are "new collectibles" (junk) listed over and over again.
Seems to be the way things go..just like Ebay..
Aw, I thought it was just me that thinks that way! On our local CL there's been a small metal coffee can for sale (same photo) for four years running, ranging back and forth from $7 to $10. Lots more junk just like it.
Yup it's like that here to. I don't use CL much for that reason. But when I post a wanted ad I get tons of replies
Everybody wants to be a picker lol

I started using CPro+ on my IPad to do CL searches. With this app you can set searches to run automatically. Once your save search is set to run you then get a notice that a search found a new item. You can then go back into the app and run the search. All the items for the search are then display. But the nice feature of the app is the option to show only new items. So I can set a search for say "cans" and while the search may find 200 items for "cans" I can easily see which items are new since I last looked at the search. Makes it super easy to see the few items that get added everyday. And the app is intelligent enough to not count a previous item as new just because the poster "renewed" the ad.

Also what is nice is the app can search multiple CL areas at the same time. I usually search all the CL areas within about 150 miles of my home.

And contacting sellers is easy with the app. You can email, call, or text the seller by simply clicking their contact info in their ad.

Since I started using this app I think I have only used the web version of CL maybe 2 or 3 times in the last year. I can check all my CL searches (I have about 30) in 15-20 minutes each evening.
Here in Michigan there is an antique store that lists many objects with multiple tags lines that have nothing to do with the objects actually listed. What's worse is that they update the listings every 3 days. As an example they have a root beer sign that has been on CL for over 3 years.

It has certainly changed since it came out. Im glad I was able to take advantage of it when it was newer.

I think one of the worst things they did was allow you to "repost" ad everyday by clicking on a tab.
In Binghamton it is the same old story... nothing but junk. I stopped trying to sell on CL a while back, because very few of the responses you get are serious buyers..
Craigslist still has its place. I agree with vwlfan above, really need to use secondary software to make CL efficient. Keep in mind that you have to find the right software, many of the national CL search engines suck. I've had good luck with Daily CL for broad regional searches. Craigslist doesn't like the secondary software so frequent updates are required to keep the program's working.

In urban areas, the CL people I've met can be kind of dicey. Is been easier in wisconsin. I'll never advertise a garage sale in Northern California on CL again that's for sure! I avoid selling on CL generally but for finding deals CL is still pretty useful using secondary software.
With any free service your gonna get junk postings ....just the nature of the beast
Oh don't get me started about Craigslist. Some lady has been putting a fisher price pull dog toy for $10 for like 5 years. One time I eamailed her and said what is your deal lady? She said how am I bothering you. I'm so tempted to go buy it and then drop kick it in the street and then run it over in front of her. LOL.

Yeah, the number of crazy people on CL is really concerning! At least she sounds harmless crazy, I don't mind those so much.
I am running some sales on CL now for this weekend, first time ever. I am not listing any prices on anything until the day after the sale, I have people emailing me stoping by already with bundles of cash to by now. It is not for sale Now. I have reposted in my ad pickers/flippers are welcome, BUT, at whole sale prices. I will try this on CL a time or 2 and see how it goes. Also, I will be listing Items here on old gas at some point and time, not sure when yet. it's time to start downsizing.
Yes it is.
