I have a lot of vintage photos from here in Utah of non gas station related advertising that I would like to share , and I will try to put some on each week until they are all shown . If anyone can ad to this please do I would love to see any old pictures of signs . Have a good weekend Peter
Great photos Peter. I really like the "Used Cars" signs. I just finished restoring this large OK neon earlier this year for a guy out west. Same as the one in your photo that the guys are standing around and touching. I never understood what compels people to want to walk up and touch neon tubes, but see grown adults did that in the 1950's too. I guess people are just drawn to them like bugs! Several years ago I had one of those large round "OK" signs that they are pointing to in the other photo. It was a 3-piece sign and 10' in diameter. A friend of mine wanted it worse than I did, so sold it to him. Thanks for sharing the photos!
These are both beautiful and a little depressing at the same time. The amount of effort that went in to making these storefronts and advertising beautiful is amazing. We seem to have peaked aesthetically about 75 years ago. Nothing we build today looks like this anymore...that's the depressing part. Thanks for sharing though.
