Theres always someone on Old Gas that poses the question of "HOW DO YOU FIND THIS STUFF"! Personally, I keep an ad in the area trade paper for all 52 weeks of the year and that gives me a lot of leads! Sometimes its by word of mouth and other times its just a hunch! On tuesday I decided to drive and look at a sign that a fellow told my wife about! (yes, she looks out for me too) I got there and had a good time talking with the fellow about the old days and was able to purchase his sign from him. I was about 20 miles from home and as I drove along, when my feeble mind started working and I was just looking around to see if there was anything that might give me an indication of some gas & oil artifacts! I had just slowed to go thru a VERY small town that I have been thru a bazillion times before, when I spotted a man out in front of an old repair shop from the 40's era. I had a hunch, so I hit the brakes and turned in to speak with him. Now this shop had closed over 25 years ago and the original owner had long since departed but the building was there and that was enough. When I told the owner what I was looking for, he said there was nothing but junk in the building and he was just storing a few things in there, but he invited me to take a look anyway! He was right, there was just a bunch of junk and some personal stuff stored in there but when I pointed out the AC flange sign on the wall, he explained that he had completely forgotten about it! He wanted to give it to me, but I explained that it had value and I gave him a fair offer that he accepted. That started him thinking and he remembered these small liscense toppers that were in a drawer and sold them to me too! As I was getting ready to leave, he told me that he'd keep an eye out for more stuff and would call me if he found anything! I now have "ANOTHER" pair of eyes out there looking for me! Moral of the story is that no matter how many times you've been by a place, if it looks inviting, its worth the time to stop and ask! You just never know!

Kevin, Thanks for an ever encouraging story about just being out there and always scanning the possible and sometimes least likely of locations to score. It doesn't cost a thing to ask and we don't know if we don't ask.You being fair with the man left him with a good impression and who knows possibly future leads. Thanks for sharing! Robert

By the way--these didn't look this nice when I found them. They were all pretty grimy but cleaned up nicely!
