Saw the 1940 movie 'Doctor Takes a Wife' earlier today and the guy went into a gas station that had a 3 or 4 sectioned lubster (they showed it so quick I wasn't sure the number). One lable I could see very briefly had the Gargolye text and graphic and under the graphic BB. I may not have seen it long enough to be correct on this, but if so, what did the BB stand for?

Just wonderin' smile

Hello Nicole, BB was a grade of Gargoyle that was used for summer or winter engine oil as well as some trans and differential use in some vehicles and motorcycles according to my Gargoyle chart which covers 1925~1928. It was vacuum oils system of viscosity or "body" as they called it in the day. alpha code rather than numeric as used today i.e. 10w-30 15w-40 etc. They had many different designations A, AA, AF, B, BB, C, CC, E was specific to Fords and Arctic for winter apps.
That's why you see "Consult the Chart" on alot of old lube sign. Hope this helps!

There was a computer faced pump in Gilmore colors/decals/repo globe (I think it was one of the G&B 90 series pumps) that I saw in a chain retail clothing store over the Christmas holidays that I almost was tempted to ask if they would sell it. I bit my lip though as Bob and I are thinking we're going to downsize homes in about 5 years, if not sooner.
